Management
Successful golf course management requires a balance between the business side of operations and the passion for providing an enjoyable and challenging golfing experience. Adaptability, effective communication, and a keen eye for detail are essential traits for a golf course manager.

1968 to 1983
PGA Pro at Gleneagles Hotel Resort, Scotland
- Looking after all golfing services for members and visitors to Gleneagles from all over the world and especially USA
1983 to 1991
- PGA Pro at Valderrama Golf Club, Sotogrande, Spain
Helping Jaime Ortiz Patino
Set up and create Valderrama Golf Club from it’s beginning in 1983 through to 1991
1991 to 1995
Director of Gleneagles Golf Developments, Scotland
- Set up Gleneagles Golf Developments to take the Gleneagles Golf Brand into the Global Golf Market with a view to helping Gleneagles to one day being awarded the Ryder Cup and other Internationally Global golf events.
1991 to 1995
General Manager of the 5 star Atalaya Golf & Country Club, Marbella with its 400 bedroom hotel and it’s 2 x 18 hole Golf Courses
- Reorganised and regrassed both courses and this allowed myself and my team to successfully market Atalaya Golf & Country Club and its Old and New courses in the European market place.
- After a recorded net operating loss of 150,000 US dollars in 1995 we achieved a net operating profit of 920,000 US dollars in 1999.
- Atalaya during my tenure was the headquarters of the PGA of Europe and of the German Golf Federation.
1999 to 2001
- General Manager of the iconic course of Monte Mayor in Benahavis, Marbella, Spain
- With my team we improved all aspects and quality of this unique mountain course
- With good short term marketing during my 18 months there we achieved a net operating profit of 140,000 US Dollars.
2001 to 2013
General Manager of Valderrama Golf Club, Sotogrande, Spain
- Valderrama Golf Club under the ownership of Jaime Ortiz Patino achieved, 18 Volvo Masters Championships,
- 2 Amex World Championship Events, 1999 won by Tiger Woods & in 2000 by Canadian left hander Mike Weir… and of course the never to be forgotten Ryder Cup of 1997 with captains eve Ballesteros and his great team.
- During 1991 and 2001 I was on Valderrama’s Executive.
- In 2001 I was invited back by Mr Ortiz Patino to be General Manager.
- This was living the dream and I helped Mr Ortiz Patino to realise his dream. He retired and sadly passed away.
It was the end of an era. The experience was unbelievable for me and the entire Valderrama team and for me it was time to do something else in golf.
Since then I have been actively involved in Golf Consultancy….
- I was awarded the PGA of Europe 5 star Pro award in 2006 and I have been a member of the PGA for 50 years.
- I am also a member of the CMAA Club Managers Association of America .
- I am also a Panelist of the Platinum Clubs of the World.
